Licensed Captain Services
If you would like to rent a sailboat or motorboat while visiting Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island, Maine, yet want to “leave the driving” to someone else so that you can enjoy your time with family and friends, consider taking advantage of our Captain Services. This will allow you to relax and take in the sights around you. This would also make an excellent wedding or anniversary gift for a loved one or close friend. There is the added benifit of having someone onboard who knows the area and can answer questions about wildlife, the land and its people. Try to book this in advance in order to secure the services of the Captain. If needed, the Captain will bring an additional helper.

U.S.C.G. Captain Robert Wellborn will accompany boats (power or sail) for 18% of the boat rental fee. Narrated trips are from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM and by reservation only. Relax and let Robert take the responsibility of boat damage and navigation problems off your mind. Robert has a 50-ton captain's license with sail endorsement.
Capt. Wellborn has been with us for several years and his trips on the Cal 25 sailboats have been the highlight for many summer vacations. He has a wealth of stories and inside information that will surely entertain. Please remember that tips and gratuities for dock hands and instructors are appreciated.
Vacation Rentals on Premises
Our boat rental office is located on the same waterfront property as the Moorings Inn and the Moorings Inn Vacation Rental Cottages in the Manset section of Southwest Harbor, Maine. This makes it very convenient for short or extended stays. Southwest Harbor is on the southwest side of Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park. We have a gorgeous oceanview of the harbor, Bear Island Lighthouse, and the entrance to Somes Sound.
