sailing in Somes Sound near AcadiaThere is nothing quite like slipping silently through the waves with the wind across the face. The only thing you hear is the splashing waves on the sides of the hull, the flutter of the canvas sail stretched by the wind, and the seagulls over head.

The views from Somes Sound of the mountains of Mount Desert Island are spectacular. There are many other sights as well including the Bear Island Lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Islesford, Great Cranberry Island, and much more.

Mansell Boat Rental Company has several sailboats to choose from. And, if you always wanted to sail but have not learned how, we can provide sailing lessons.

Rental of the Cal sailboats below requires a captain's license, AS certification, or a resume showing extensive sailing experience.

The Cal 25 and the Cal 31 Performance Cruisers are built with 25 years of CAL experience:

  • large stainless sink with pressure hot and cold water
  • 8 cubic foot ice chest
  • lockers and dry storage for food, dishes, linens, and gear
  • two-burner alcohol stove with oven
  • sleeps 5 (2 in forward berth and 3 on the settee side berths)
  • marine head with sink, and hand-held shower
  • boat plan available upon request

SLIP AVAILABLE: One piece finger float 40'x6' on 2 moorings next to the Great Harbor Marina in a calm, beautiful cove, includes rowboat - $1.50 per foot/per day
